Appearing before Magistrate Robert Rabbidge, Prenter was represented by solicitor Brian Hanrahan, who told the court his client was "unaware of the prosecution's brief of evidence".
"I've been encouraged to make an application for bail," Mr Hanrahan said.
"I'm informed by Sgt Gates at the bar table that the DPP are taking over matters 1 to 49 in the list of charges. They are charges of 26 stalk and intimidate; 12 use carriage service as menace; six contravene domestic violence order or personal violence order; one fail to comply with a reporting obligation; and four use carriage service to threaten to kill."
Mr Hanrahan said that because of the new DPP involvement there was a "process that must be followed".
"The prosecution indicated that process requires brief orders be made and the prosecution brief to be served," Mr Hanrahan said.
"It can't move immediately and time is required for the service of the brief."
Mr Hanrahan asked that the case be adjourned to May 22.
"Formally bail has been applied for and bail has been refused," Mr Rabbidge said.
The matter will go before Moss Vale Local Court on May 22 for a "brief service mention".
Prenter will remain in custody but appear via audiovisual link when the case resumes.
