The Living With Stories Western Sydney Prize, held by WestWords is open to people from the Southern Highlands, Wollondilly Shire and western Sydney.
The competition gives people aged 10 or older the chance to tell their story, and be in the running for different prizes.
This year's theme is The Other City - whether that be a place one loves, an imaginary one, or not visited yet.
Poems, stories or personal essays will be judged by a panel from the Highlands, where winners from each local government area will be assessed again for a shot at a prize pool worth more than $10,000.
Categories are for writers between 10 and 12 years old, 13 and 15 years old, people aged between 16 and 18, and adults.
