Young swimmers have been getting into superhero mode as they learn about safe swimming habits as part of Safety Week.

About 800 students have undertaken lessons so far at the Moss Vale Aquatic Centre, and have had the chance to dress as their favourite heroes.

The biannual initiative by Bluefit, covers different scenarios that can be applied to various situations and bodies of water.
Training has included water rescues, how to ask for help, safety strokes, looking out for lifeguards and red and yellow flags, as well as swimming without goggles.

Swim school manager and assisting facility manager Rhianna Clamp it was the opportunity for these habits to become "muscle memory", with other lessons, if children do need assistance.
"It is pretty much one of the most important lessons," she said.
"We build foundational skills in lessons, and we get to focus and have fun and learn."
Students were not the only ones who became heroic in classes - instructors were spotted in masks, capes and costumes throughout the week.
