Southern Highlands Water Polo (SHWP) president Craig Moore said it was great to see so many people involved and that they all had a memorable time.
"Most of these kids hadn't played water polo before, we are so proud of their efforts and sportsmanship," Moore said.
"The enthusiasm for the sport was evident in the kids smiles and laughter."
A Water Polo NSW spokesperson explained the importance of running events like the Tourney Shield.
"The biggest benefit of competitions like these is that it is the ideal environment for introducing new players to the sport," she said.
Focusing on children having fun and participating, the tournament helped develop the players and referees.
The players competed in several games a day which allowing coaches to provide feedback, while younger referees were encouraged to "have a go" in a non-threatening environment.
Parents also had the opportunity to develop their skills as table officials.
Southern Highlands Green and Blue finished fourth and ninth respectively in the Warriors division while Pink finished fifth in the Raiders division.
Players will now continue to play in their SHWP season which started earlier this month.
